At the beginning of March 2012 Transnomia was selected to become one of the consultancy teams to advise the Ministry of Economy and Finances in Spain since the Euro Zone has pushed Spain on budget cuts.

Our responsibility as advisers hasn´t been directed towards designing an economy plan to prevent debt crisis from becoming higher but rather to create a situation room advising a group of experts about how to administer governance in time of crisis. Our program had basically two main directions, one regarding spanish education and the second one focused on developing a critical attitude towards the Euro Zone countries.

During the spring of 2010 we conducted in Max Plank Institute a series of explorations of everyday actions with the purpose of understanding better how our subjectivity finds its fundaments on repetition of patterns that consequently confirms and validates our identity.

The Path of the domestic truths contains a research on how routine is being constructed through performing a reiteration of actions, which we could call daily life rituals. The main task we gave ourselves was to increase the awareness of everyday life processes and framing every single micro action that usually goes unnoticed. The result of this particular research was the realization of how through a process of high level of awareness brings distance towards the most simple domestic actions transforming them into something strange and bizarre. This process of strangement or dissafection undermines the patterns of daily life and questions the role that habits play in shaping our subjectivity.

Transnomia state of mind can be practiced during everyday life activities, such as speaking, washing the dishes, talking to a friend, waiting, and standing. In this article we present some of the techniques that can be used to induce Transnomia in a casual household or an office setting.

Each action is directed towards a certain purpose. When this vector of intention is accentuated through language the content is neutralized through the tautology that follows. Therefore we transform everyday actions into “floating signifiers”, phrases that appear to have a meaning but don’t make sense. Continuous repetition of linguistic constructs during the activity described, allows one to reach a critical state of consciousness faster and quicker. The phrases should be repeated without an interruption during the whole course of events and if possible the actions should be visualized at the same time as they are performed in everyday life. The resulting condition will allow one to transcend the limitations of the everyday and reach the critical state where on neutralizes the intention and revels in the pure form of action and language. It is in that moment that the action has the capacity to turn into something else and thus carry one into the chaotic state-space of multiple possibilities.

Using lighter to light

Using your mouth to speak
Using your ears to hear
Using your eyes to see
Using your ass to sit
Using your hands to wash
Using your legs to stand
Using your heart to beat
Using your mouth to eat
Using your teeth to bite
Using your body to feel
Using your washing machine to wash
Using your refrigerator to refrigerate

Using your eyelids to blink

The statements below are a little bit more complex as they imply cause-effect connection. Continuous repetition of these phrases allows one to disrupt the rational flow of logic and instead introduce the multiple pathways that enable one escape the necessity and shift into the realm of Transnomia, wandering between meanings and linguistic constellations. This practice helps one, on one side, have a different point of view on the everyday action, and, on the other side, allows one to see the extraordinary in the mundane.

Using a mop when the floor is dirty

Eating food when you are hungry
Drinking water when you are thirsty
Fucking someone when you are horny
Running somewhere when you are late
Taking something when you need it

Buying food in a supermarket
Sending an e-mail with a computer
Calling someone with a phone
Writing something with a pen

Using your fingers to click

Buying a ticket before getting on a train
Stopping in front of the red light before crossing the road
Getting a passport before traveling somewhere
Being quiet when someone else is talking

Using the linguistic paths above one can reach the state of Transnomia performing everyday chores as well as in cause-effect relational thinking. However, the most difficult and rewarding path to master is the path of conceptual thinking. There a subject does not have any tangible objects or cause-effects constructs to confirm the reality. Instead, the objects in questions are abstract, therefore it is only through simultaneous practice of Transnomic visualization and meta-stable verbalization that one can reach the state of Transnomia in one’s conceptual thinking.

Calling someone with the phone

Moving the hand. Watching the hand. Moving the fingers. There are ten fingers on the hands.

This signifies that.

Allowing oneself to be submerged under multitude of meanings without revealing any of them.

The hands are empty. The hands are full.

Stopping short of utopia.

Being the survivor. Being the believer. Transnomia.

On Transnomia we also compose refrains of metastable content. These can be used in order to evoke the state of inner peace in the moments of instability and critical transitionary states.

Critical states are full of questions. A question opens a whole new horizon for new landscapes to appear. There is definitely a large proportion of hesitation during establishing these coming horizons. During transitionary states things get in a muddle producing the confusion of not being able to determine yet final resolutions. During this hesitation the virtue of patience will be required.

Transnomia demands to improve a set of skills that will allow you to be submerged into the multitude of meanings without this becoming unbearable. Crisis is an opportunity for new connections to happen. The ground is instable and under a constant process of transformation. The old system can be recreated by merely reconfiguring the old patterns and trying out new combinations. However, since recycling is definitely an option, often it just a lazy choice. On the other hand it is not about starting from scratch. It will be necessary to combine in a different constelation the main elements or principles that constituted the old habits. During transnomia there is no recognizable pattern to follow and neither a the existance of a plan or strategy will help. Only directions determined by a driving force will define the path that has to be follow. Transporting from the old system only what can be necessary and sacrificing everything that can represent a burden while traveling on quicksand.

Transitions will require a certain determination to execute all the decisions that are needed. Before that, a process of constant negotiation will gradually conform a specific sensibility for things to change. Predisposition and attitude will allow the resolution to arrive while becoming extra sensitive to the way signs affect us. Being extra susceptible to interpret the signs as signs for change. Of course it might happen during a panic attack the temptation to turn back and return to the old system or to end up performing the old patterns again and re-establishing the old order. Being patience is one of the skills during transnomia. To consider wisely all reasons for keep on moving and being open for new adventures might not be enough. It will be required a self instructive process, educating the education, being the apprentice. The rotation is the way of looking at things from different perspectives, not expecting that things will move by themselves but rather performing the movement, rotating the rotation.

Uncertainty and Instability will take us into a series of speculations in order to explore the possibilities within the new horizon. Imagination as another driving force that designs any future adventure as something appealing. One’s own identity must be transformed and this will be a sign that confirms the state of transnomia, questioning one’s own subjectivity while complicating it towards unknown realizations.

Connecting[1] the connection
Transforming the transformation
Creating the creation
Expecting the expectation
Transporting the transportation
Directing the direction

Exactly
Exactly

Combining the combination
Hesitating the hesitation
Educating the education
Resolving the resolution
Instructing the instruction
Locating the location
Considering the consideration

Considering the connection of transforming the creation and expecting the transportation is directing the combination into hesitating the education. Therefore, resolving the instruction through locating the consideration.

However, rotating the temptation against sensing the complication is nothing, but confirming the speculation.

And this… this… brings us back to the question.

Questioning the question
Rotating the rotation
Tempting the temptation
Speculating the speculation
Sensing the sensation
Confirming the confirmation
Complicating the complication
